Important note regarding languages:
Until recently, this website was maintained exclusively in German. We are now gradually translating larger sections into English. Not all pages are available in English yet. If you land on a German-language page that does not yet have a language switcher, please use your browser's built-in translation function (e.g., Google Chrome: right-click → "Translate to English" or similar in other browsers).

photoinfos.com is a private website run by Thomas Gade. It mainly publishes my own tests and experience reports on conventional and digital photographic technology, scanners, lenses, photography in general, photo archiving, photo labs, astronomy, optics and historical topics, as well as computers and software. The site was originally created because I wanted to learn how to work with Dreamweaver software on the one hand, and on the other hand to make instructions available online for people I used to train in employment measures to scan photos for museums.

Even though these original motivations are now history, I enjoy continuing to write articles for this website. They are shaped by my personal experiences with photographic equipment, telescopes, microscopes, etc. When testing technology and software, I focus on aspects that particularly interest me. Others I leave out, even if they would be important to different users. For example, I hardly deal with video technology and rarely test the video capabilities of cameras. Similarly, high frame rates are unimportant for my photographic work. I usually don't care whether a camera shoots four, twenty, or more frames per second.

photoinfos.com is both the address and the name of this website. No services are offered here and I do not sell any of the products described. For service inquiries regarding the products, please contact the respective manufacturers. Despite these lines, I still regularly receive emails with questions about the articles and also about specific technical problems of my readers. Please don't be offended if I don't always reply – especially when the question is where to purchase this or that item. I would have to research that on the web myself – which you can also do. However, it is very helpful if you point out errors to me or contribute explanations for effects when I cannot solve a puzzle myself.
